Arthur Macklan

Arthur Macklan always rewarded himself with an expensive steak after he completed a job. On this particular day Arthur had taken care of a problem that had been bothering him for a very long time, this meant that he would get a steak and dessert. He walks into his favorite restaurant, the manager sees his confidant walk and smiles in anticipation of a large tip as he tells the chef to prepare the steak. Arthur looks at the other customers as he makes his way to his regular table. He disregards a family eating dinner since the father looks oddly like someone he does not want to ever think about again. A young couple is sitting near the back of the restaurant, the boy watches Arthur our of the corner of his eye so that he can still look at the girl but she turns her head so that she can look Arthur in the eye before smiling and turning back to her meal. Arthur wonders if the two are in love, if so then he hopes that the boy will break the girl’s heart so that she can never break his. Arthur feels his fists clench and has to force himself to think of more pleasant things since this is a good evening, there is no time to wallow or think of anything unpleasant at all. Only time for steak and celebration. The steak arrives quickly because the manager has informed all of the staff that Arthur is an excellent tipper when he walks in confidently. They all assume that he goes out to eat whenever he gets his paycheck.

The steak was made just as Arthur likes it and the first few bites were fantastic. Halfway through the steak the room seemed brighter, the future seemed brighter, everything is going to be perfect now that he took got rid of those problems. He is going to get a promotion, he won’t have to live in his dingy apartment anymore, the boss will invite him to live in the City. Arthur watched the boy and the girl get up to leave, he caught the girl’s eyes again and then fell out of his chair. The children at the nearby table screamed, their mother screamed and hid their eyes from the blood pouring out of Arthur’s swollen mouth. The father rushed his family out of the restaurant as he called the police. The manager of the restaurant ran to check his pulse, but the poison acted quickly so that Arthur was dead before he hit the ground.
